The Gift and Responsibility of Children

Proverbs 23:13-25

This is a dangerous sermon for me to preach because everything I say will be subject to personal, intimate, no-hiding-behind-platitudes evaluation. I'm going to talk today about parenting. I would much prefer to be in the position of my friend's minister, Bill, from Durango, Colorado, who stood up to give a three part series on marriage and parenting and said, "I'm in the perfect place to preach this series. I'm single with no kids; nothing I say will be contradicted by my life."

The truth is I have a deeper struggle with this sermon than merely the "do what I say not what I do" dilemma. My deeper struggle is how to approach the subject at all: from what perspective should I talk? How specific with do's and don’ts should I get? How much of my own life do I bring in versus how much do I stick with modem parent
