Fellowship/Small Groups

 

PresbyBar - A catered supper beginning at 5:00 p.m. Wednesdays during the school year with meals available at reasonable prices for adults and children. This fellowship meal makes it easy for the family to participate in the music programs and/or the Wednesday night Bible study.

Active Retired Presbyterians/Mariners - A monthly covered-dish meal and program for retirees, meeting the last Tuesday of the month in the Fellowship Hall. Times vary with activities. Newcomers are welcome.

Covenant Groups - Up to 8 people who “covenant” to meet regularly to study the Bible, pray and care for each other for a set time.

Dinners for 8 - Groups of eight people, not necessarily couples, who take turns hosting a potluck supper at their homes. This is a great way to deepen friendships within the congregation. Contact Ed and Susie Sydnor, 547-3126.

Full of Lifers - Older Adult Ministry plans fellowship opportunities, study, and intergenerational activities for the seniors. Contact Becky Proudfoot, 545-0818.

Men’s Fellowship -  Meets for lunch and a program once a month on the first Tuesday. Contact Jim Brown, 543-5049.

 

Music Program

The Chancel Choir  -  Open to singers in high school as well as adults. Practice is at 7 p.m. Wednesdays and no auditions are required. The Chancel Choir sings regularly at the 9:45 a.m. service and sings for several special events during the year.

The Children’s Choir - Open to kids from kindergarten through eighth grade. Practice is at 5:45 p.m., Wednesdays, and the choir sings at the 11 a.m. service once a month.

Bell Choirs  -  Open to adults and children. The Chancel Bell Choir is for experienced ringers and practices at 6 p.m., Tuesdays.

The Fellowship of the Ringers  -  Open to all ages.  Practice is Wednesday evenings, 6:30 p.m., and performs at the 11 a.m. service periodically.

Instrumentaliststalents are always welcome, too. To volunteer for any of these music opportunities, contact Liz Shoemaker through the church office.

  

Children and Youth

MYLife

MYLife exists to REACH Middle School students with the message of God’s love, to TEACH them to grow in their faith, and to challenge their growing to SERVE God and to CARE for one another in order to HONOR God with their lives.

MYLife meets on Sunday evening from 4 p.m. - 6p.m.  In the basement for small group discussions, games, skits, food and fun

LUVLife

LUVLife is a program for High School (grades 8 through 12).  LUVLife is an acronym for “Let Us Vibrate Life.”

LUVLife meets on Sunday evenings from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. in   the LUVLife room.

Activities vary from games and snacks, to Bible study, worship and community services.  Our annual events include: the Great Pumpkin Chase, the High School Fall Retreat, Ski trips, Acquire the Fire (youth convention), and a summer mission trip.

 

Spiritual Growth

Christian Education  -  During the school year, Sunday School classes are offered for all ages from preschool through several adult classes.

Bible Studies  -  Pastor Brad leads an adult Bible study after Presbybar on Wednesday evenings during the school year.

Women’s groups  -  conducting studies through the week are

Community Bible Study (CBS) is an in-depth non-denominational study which meets at Calvary Church every Thursday during the school year.

After Work Bunch is a Bible study for working women in    all stages of life and meets from 5:15 – 6:15 p.m., Thursdays, in the Church Fellowship Hall. Contact Bobbi Reynolds, 544-3722.

Sarah Circle, meets at 9:30 a.m. the third Thursday each month in homes. Contact Sidney Clutter, 543-4574.

Men’s groups  -  conducting studies through the week are

The Thursday Morning Men’s Group meets at 6:45 a.m. for coffee, donuts and good discussions on Thursdays, year-round.

Emmaus Mens Group meets Thursday 5 pm in the library.

The Acts 29 men’s group meets at 7 a.m. Saturdays during   the school year to read and discuss scripture.

Walk to Emmaus groups  -  First Presbyterian sponsors Walk to Emmaus retreats, an intensive spiritual development experience, for both men and women. We also have ongoing support groups for Emmaus alumni. Ask the church office for details if you are interested.

Singles - Book study on Thursday nights 7:15 pm in the library.

Divorce Recovery Workshop  -  This is an 8-week non-denominational support group/workshop offered for separated or divorced persons of all ages and beliefs.  The intent of this workshop is to provide support and growth opportunities.  It is NOT intended to take the place of professional therapy or treatment. Workshops are held twice a year. Contact the church office for date of next workshop.

Seasons of Grief Workshop  -  Bereavement at the Death of Someone Close. This is a 5 week non-denominational support group/workshop.  The intent of this workshop is to provide support and growth opportunities.  It is NOT intended to take the place of professional therapy or treatment. Workshops are held twice a year.  Contact the church office for date of next workshop.

Teachers - Sunday School teachers and helpers are always needed. If you are interested, contact Dave Alexander at the church office. Volunteers are needed to help with youth activities during the school year and on summer mission trips. If you are called to this service, contact Rene Morrissey at the church office.

Church Committees - They accomplish much of the work of the church. Some examples are the Property Committee which maintains and beautifies the building and grounds, the Fellowship Committee, Outreach Committee, the Worship Committee which schedules ushers and helps to plan worship services and the Mission Committee which determines how First Presbyterian Church supports national and international ministries. If you are interested in helping with any church committee, PLEASE let the church office know!

Prayer Chain - This group meets at 9 a.m. the first Tuesday each month to pray for the needs of church members and friends. Prayer request forms are in the pews, and new members are always welcome to join this ministry. There are several daytime and night chains. If you are interested, contact Midge Bolibaugh, 546-1286.

Stephen Ministry - This program equips lay members to provide one-to-one care to people with special needs. If you would like to know more about being trained as a Stephen Minister, or if you are need of this ministry’s services, call the church office.

Office Helpers - Volunteers are needed to answer the phones, fold and stuff bulletins, get out special mailings, greet and take care of visitors, etc.  Once a month help is needed to collate, label and prepare the newsletter for bulk mailing.
